POSITION SUMMARY

The Analyst will be a fully integrated member of the Alternative Asset Research Team. The position requires a passion for investing and working knowledge of financial markets. This individual should have a keen interest in investment research, supporting manager research, idea and data management, and portfolio management functions, especially as they relate to hedge funds, alternative credit, private equity and other illiquid/alternative asset categories.  The Analyst will also serve as a key point person to support the integrated effort across alternative and traditional assets.

We advise and research alternative assets for investments and funds for a large financial institution.  Our team supports a multi-billion dollar investment management organization that advises to client advisor teams and their wealthy clients.  The firm’s clients include mostly accredited and qualified investor families, leading local businesses and family offices served throughout the U.S.  Our team is cohesive, collegial, fast paced and professional.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Guide investment research and due diligence of alternative managers, hedge funds, private equity funds, private credit funds, specialized vehicles, direct investments and other alternative assets.

  • Integrate key partner research in alternatives and private assets to produce a cohesive research effort for advisors.

  • Work closely with the senior investment team and outside partners to manage the due diligence and research process for new ideas and products.

  • Complete written research utilized by advisors to support investment decisions. This includes concise commentaries summarizing meetings with fund managers, in depth due diligence reports, and other periodic research including white papers exploring current topics of interest in the hedge fund industry.

  • Utilize common analytical tools and develop unique analyses to assess hedge funds in terms of organization, investment strategy, performance, liquidity, fund terms, current portfolio positions, and other key attributes.

  • Help source new ideas and monitor existing managers by initiating and managing meetings with alternative investment managers.

  • Support alternative research technology platform for Alternative Asset Research Team and outside partners.

  • Operate and continually update the fund/manager selection process and platforms with the use of a thorough and systematic approach.

  • Act as a resource and a product expert for colleagues and partners regarding managers and investment opportunities, including comparisons, data and analysis and advisor inquiries.

  • Prepare performance, manager data and capital markets exhibits for both internal research meetings and outside partner updates.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree with a record of achievement. Economics, Finance, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Political Science and other similar majors preferred.

  • 2+ years of experience in an investment analyst position, with experience in manager or fund research

  • 2+ years of experience in an investment or due diligence role for a financial services firm

  • Student of the Financial Services Industry and Capital Markets

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel

  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Superb critical thinking ability

  • Demonstrates ownership of tasks and projects

  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through

  • A high degree of professionalism and work ethic

  • High integrity and positive attitude

 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with some alternative asset categories and due diligence functions (e.g., fund due diligence, operational due diligence, quantitative screening, fund terms)
